My name is Cristian Caceres, student of the career of agronomic engineering taught by the University of Chile, and I will tell you a little about the career, which is a career dedicated to food production, whether of plant or animal origin, but, to perform this production, we study everything that means that an apple reaches your table, we study soil, plant physiology, irrigation, fertilization, plant health, production, packaging or post-production, and in animals we see something very similar, so our work goes from the field under the sun, where we can see crops and fruit trees, or animal production systems to the more office area, management, administration, among other areas related to agriculture, all this we study for 5 years, and we start with the basics, soil, recognize the crops, mathematics, and as we advance in the semesters, the difficulty increases in relation to the branches that are taken, but if you wish, you can do an "articulation" and graduate with a master's degree, which will take 1 more year of career, it is one of the facilities of the university, what plays against the teaching in the career, is the little integration of new technologies or methods that are coming out for the common students, this knowledge is only available in general for graduate students, adding the little field experience offered in the semesters, so that theoretical knowledge predominates over practical knowledge in the curriculum of the university, which is a major drawback compared to other universities, but at least the graduate laboratories are very entertaining with instruments that allow very curious measurements, such as light capture or net leaf area of a leaf.So my relationship with the career is one of love and hate, for what has already been said, it has a lot of teaching potential, it has the space, it has the resources, but that is all, I really feel that the career really begins in the 5th semester, and it must be for the same reason that today there is another mesh, which came into force in 2021.
the only thing I am sure of in these 4 years of study, where the saying, blood, sweat and tears is real, but just like the tomato plant, someday it will bear fruit, and it will be the best ones.
